Okay, this frustrates me enough that I have to say it.  Doctor Who fandom has a problem and we all know what it is.  It is splintered.  While it has bothered me for a long time now, it only really became unbearable when I entered a healthier fandom and liked it so much more that I didn’t really want to come back.

But I love Doctor Who, and even if I can’t stand the fandom wars, I am going to remain a fan.

I hate fandom infighting.  I hate shipwars.  I hate that when I get sick of one group bashing the other, I can’t just hang out in the other group because that group will be bashing the first.

Look.  Like many fans, there is a Doctor I do not like.  I have my reasons for that, and they amount to me resisting watching him.  But I don’t generally bash him in public.

Unlike many fans, I have about an equal love for the old series and the new.  Unlike many fans, I don’t really ship the Doctor with any of his companions romantically, unless I can make it funny.  When I do ship the Doctor with a companion romantically, it is not to the exclusion of anything.

I do ship Doctor/TARDIS, but that seems to be the one pairing to which nobody can seriously object.  For reasons that are fairly obvious.  (Even the Rose shippers have their heart of the TARDIS moment to look on and grow vaguely uncomfortable in the brilliant light of fridge logic.)

Look.  Try to enjoy the Doctor and the show.  Don’t worry about what other people like.  It doesn’t diminish your own joys for someone who disagrees with you to be happy.

I think Watsky has an answer to the fan-wars problem, or at least something to tell people who insist on shipping...
